More than just Fun and Games?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A variety of toys from 1900 to today will be on display from March in the barn from Asterode. From rocking horses to video game consoles, these toys can be seen as a reflection of society. Just as the materials used for play vary, so do the values and skills they aim to teach. From a contemporary perspective, the exhibition offers fascinating insights into the play habits and living realities of children then and now. Grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren will discover things from their own childhoods, but also toys from other generations. Numerous play stations invite younger visitors, in particular, to join in and explore.<\/p>\n

We’re turning 50!<\/p>\n

<\/strong>In keeping with our anniversary, the exhibition shows portrait photographs of Hessians who will also celebrate their 50th birthday in 2024. Guided by renowned artist, Sandra Mann, students from the European School of Design photographed the birthday people in the open air museum. The results are expressive images that reflect the past and present of each individual and are presented alongside short personal descriptions. The exhibition project is a collaboration between the Hessenpark Open Air Museum, the European School of Design and the Haus am Dom Frankfurt. Since our F\u00f6rderkreis will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025, we are extending the duration of the exhibition by one year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Imagery of the Magic Lantern<\/b><\/p>\n

The magic lantern was developed in the 17th century as a new optical instrument that could be used to project colourful glass images. For centuries, it was used for entertainment and instruction. The images depict fairy tales, travelogues, educational content and amusing stories. The cabinet exhibition is a collaboration with the Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum and the collector Bernd Scholze. It shows a selection of magic lantern projectors and glass pictures for children and adults from 1785 to around 1900, and a picture-sound installation<\/div>\n

Living Variety. Biodiversity at Hessenpark<\/h2>\n

The term biodiversity represents the variety of life. This variety doesn\u2019t just secure what we eat, but is the very basis for our well-being, our health and ultimately our survival here on Earth. It\u2019s the result of natural processes of evolution, but also the targeted breeding of farm animals and plants by humans.<\/p>\n

This exhibition explores the diversity of the animals, plants and habitats at Hessenpark. It showcases the key role of agriculture as well as what we can all do to preserve diversity in our cultural landscape.<\/p>\n
