Craft demonstrations

Twice a year, charcoal is produced in a traditional charcoal kiln at the Open-Air Museum. The construction, ignition, smoldering, and opening of the kiln take place in several stages. During his work, the charcoal burner is happy to explain his craft to interested visitors and answer their questions.

Today, the charcoal kiln will be opened, and the charcoal burner will begin removing the finished charcoal. Charcoal made in the Hessenpark charcoal kiln is available seasonally in the museum shop.
