International Museum Day

Since 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has designated this day to highlight the thematic diversity of museums. On this occasion, admission to the museum is free for all visitors. Members of the collections team will offer guided tours of the central storage facility and the museum’s extensive collection at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

At 3 p.m., Gefion Göttert, research trainee at the Hessenpark Open-Air Museum, will offer a behind-the-scenes tour. During a walk across the museum grounds, visitors will gain fascinating insights into how exhibitions are created. The tour also includes a visit to a preparation room and the special exhibition “Heartbeats. Beginnings and Farewells.”

Please note: For conservation reasons, only 15 people per tour can enter the storage facility. A sign-up sheet will be available on the day at the entrance building. Advance registration is not possible.
