Barn from Mornshausen

At its original site, the barn was part of a medium-sized, three-sided farmstead. The farmyard between the barn and the dwelling was open to the country road and was bordered on the back, towards the garden and the trees, by a low, elongated stable. The decorative finish to the plaster on the infill is remarkable: the combination of plaster pargetting with relief and stippled ornaments is a type of whitewashing practiced mainly in the Hessian Hinterland in the 19^th century. The foundations and stable walls of the left bay were redone in open-fired clay bricks as part of a large-scale renovation. In the Barn from Mornshausen, demonstrations of basket-weaving take place, with the baskets available for sale afterwards.
