The Altsteirer Chicken

As a typical, dual-purpose country chicken, it is a good egg producer that grows to a reasonable size. The Altsteier has a lively character and likes to fly. If the run is sufficiently large, it will make a good forager. Its high mobility works to its advantage when escaping predators. As with many country breeds, the hens rarely go broody.
