Central Hesse Ensemble
Greyish-blue cobblestones pave the way to a so-called Reihendorf (»ribbon village«) which, as the centre of the ensemble, comes together to form a clustered village. Acting as typical centre is the village square, around which the town hall, church, school, and bakery are grouped. At Hessenpark, too, the village boasts the characteristic fountain and linden tree. To be found in front of and next to the houses are cottage gardens, each tilled in accordance with time-honoured methods. Plants long vanished from everyday life have been preserved here – along with the now rarer animal species that are an essential part of the Hessenpark flora and fauna to be encountered throughout the grounds.
